Can a knight sacrifice everything he holds sacred in service to his king?

King Richard is being held for ransom in Germany, and England is in chaos without a sovereign. The de Granvilles must deliver the treasure that will win their King's freedom.

But the Old Man of the Mountain, leader of the Assassins, is ready to take his revenge on Kamil. To do so he will orchestrate a great betrayal, and his tentacles of treachery reach far and deep. Kamil is determined to prevail-the Old Man must not win. But when all trust has been shattered, who can he turn to for help?

The fate of a king, the bonds of a friendship, and the depth of an enduring love will all be in jeopardy as Will, Ellie, Kamil, and Hosanna face the ultimate loyalty test, and their final battle.

Gr 6 Up-In this final installment, Gavin is dead and Will is uncertain about Ellies feelings for him. King Richard is being held for ransom in Germany, and Will has been chosen to collect and escort part of the ransom to free him. Kamil and Will have become close, united by mutual respect and a love for Hosanna. Hundreds of miles away, the Old Man of the Mountain is plotting his revenge on Kamil, who refused (in "Blood Red Horse") to kill Saladin at the Old Mans orders. When Kamil is convinced to betray Will, blood is shed and the ransom stolen. Regardless of the cost to Ellie and Hosanna, Will must race against time to save the kings life and clear Kamils name. The maturation of several characters, and the introduction of a feisty and troubled new one, adds a new dimension to the de Granvilles story. The pace is quick and will keep readers moving from one betrayal to the next. Full of twists and turns, this tale brings the trilogy to a satisfying, though perhaps somewhat contrived, ending."Melissa Moore, Union University Library, Jackson, TN"

Yes, the finale in the De Granville Trilogy is as cinematically fast paced and horsecentric as its predecessors, " Blood Red Horse" (2005) and " Green Jasper" (2006)." "It's now up to young William to deliver his share of the treasure to ransom King Richard, who is being held captive in Germany. But the evil Old Man of the Mountain has other plans for the treasure--plans involving an exquisitely crafted revenge. Readers unfamiliar with the earlier books will be bewildered by the huge cast, and the author's shifting focus makes it hard to decide just who the protagonist is. Still, it's the horses, not the humans, that count in Grant's world, and they, at least, come alive on every page.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2007, American Library Association.)
